Community Safety / Speedwatch Group
Road safety is a shared priority across the parish, championed by our dedicated Community Speedwatch group. This is a locally driven initiative in which active members of the community join forces with the police to monitor vehicle speeds using speed detection devices. The aim is not to catch as many speeding drivers as possible, but to wake up those who have lapsed into bad habits and encourage them to slow down.
Currently active within Blockley village, the scheme empowers residents to address local speeding issues directly. Volunteers receive full training and equipment and work in partnership with the police to educate drivers and improve the quality of life for everyone. By visible monitoring, we can reduce speed, improve safety, and make our streets more welcoming for pedestrians and cyclists alike.
To ensure this standard of safety extends to all our residents, we are actively looking to expand the scheme. We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers from Paxford, Draycott, and Aston Magna to help establish local teams. Even a small commitment of time can make a significant difference to the peace and safety of our rural roads.
