Economy and Local Business

While our parish is steeped in history, it is far from a dormant dormitory settlement. We have a vibrant and diverse local economy that extends well beyond tourism. The Northwick Business Centre, situated in the grounds of the former Northwick Park estate, is a thriving hub for enterprise, home to over 70 small businesses ranging from artisan workshops to professional services. This, combined with the long-standing Northcot Brickworks near Paxford, ensures that industry remains a key part of our parish’s identity.

In the heart of Blockley village, our community-owned shop and café stands as a shining example of local initiative. Founded and run by residents, it not only provides essential services but also supports local producers and offers employment. Across the parish, from the farms of Ditchford to the home offices of Draycott, a modern workforce of entrepreneurs and remote workers contributes to a flourishing local economy that respects our heritage while looking forward.

Culture and Community

Our cultural life is as active as our economy, driven by a strong spirit of volunteering and participation. At the centre of this is the affectionately named BAD Company (Blockley Amateur Dramatic Company), whose high-quality productions—ranging from pantomimes to serious drama—regularly sell out St George’s Hall. They are just one part of a wider network of groups, including the Horticultural Society, the Heritage Society, and various sports clubs, all of which bring residents together throughout the year.

This sense of community is perhaps best experienced at our regular events. Whether it is the spectacle of the Paxfes, the music festival that has graced our grounds, or the simple pleasure of a coffee morning in one of our five village halls, there is always something happening. We are a parish that likes to get involved, where new faces are welcomed, and where the calendar is always full of opportunities to connect, create, and celebrate local life.
